Klamath County Fire District 1 Responds To A Structure Fire (Photo) - 08/17/26

Klamath County Fire District 1 (KCFD1) responded to a reported structure fire on Lincoln Street. Several bystanders reported that approximately half of the residence was on fire.

While responding, KCFD1 crews were advised that it was unknown whether the homeowner was still inside the residence. Crews arrived on scene within four minutes and immediately began applying water to the exterior of the structure to slow the spread of the fire.

The first-arriving Captain completed a 360-degree assessment of the residence and identified the presence of a basement. Identifying basements and other structural features early in an incident is critical to both firefighter and occupant safety and assists the Incident Commander in developing an effective strategy for the incident.

Firefighters then made an aggressive interior attack and extinguished the fire while additional crews conducted a search of the residence for occupants. The search confirmed that no one was inside the home. During the operation, firefighters located a dog at the rear of the residence. The dog was safely removed and released to the Klamath Falls Police Department.

KCFD1 responded to the incident with 16 total personnel.  Klamath County Fire District 1 would like to thank Klamath 9-1-1, the Klamath Falls Police Department, Avista Utilities, and Pacific Power for their excellent coordination and prompt response to the incident.

KCFD1 also reminds the community of the importance of immediately calling 9-1-1 when a fire is discovered and providing dispatchers with as much information as possible regarding the location of the fire and whether anyone may still be inside the structure.

Klamath County Fire District 1 Responds To Fast Moving Brush Fire On Alisa Lane (Photo) - 07/28/26

Klamath County Fire District 1 responded to a fast moving brush fire on Alisa Lane in Klamath Falls. Firefighters arrived to find a rapidly spreading fire burning uphill in tall grass. The fire was threatening multiple structures, including a shop that had become directly exposed to the advancing fire. Crews immediately initiated an aggressive fire attack while simultaneously protecting threatened structures.

Crews were able to quickly stop the forward progress of the fire and prevented damage to nearby buildings.

Klamath County Fire District 1 responded with 15 personnel, utilizing three structure engines, one light wildland engine, one water tender, and three command staff. The first-arriving unit was on scene just 6 minutes and 26 seconds after dispatch, allowing firefighters to quickly engage the fire and protect threatened structures.

Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Oregon Department of Forestry and the Bureau of Land Management, who responded with three engines, one helicopter, one dozer, and one command staff. The combined response ensured the fire was contained quickly despite the challenging conditions.

This incident serves as an important reminder that conditions are extremely favorable for rapid fire growth during the summer months. While this fire was contained quickly, the combination of dry fuels, topography, available firefighting resources, and the time of day could easily have resulted in a much different outcome. Even small fires can spread rapidly and threaten homes, property, and lives within minutes. Klamath County Fire District 1 urges everyone to use caution with outdoor activities and to follow current fire restrictions. Prevention remains the most effective tool in protecting lives, property, and our natural resources.

The cause and origin remains under investigation.
