Standoff With Armed Subject In Albany Ends Peacefully - 04/20/26

At approximately 9:36 am the Albany Police Department responded to a wanted subject identified as Alan William Dude, 43 years of age, of Albany in front of the Linn County Courthouse.  Dude was parked in a vehicle in the 300 block of SW 4TH Avenue, Albany, Oregon after failing to show up for a Linn County Circuit Court trial that was scheduled to begin today.  Upon contact with Dude, responding officers saw what appeared to be a firearm in his hand.  Officers immediately established a secure perimeter and initiated safety protocols to protect the public.  Surrounding streets were closed and the Linn County Courthouse, Albany City Hall and surrounding businesses were restricted and locked down while the Linn Benton Regional SWAT Team responded to the scene.

Crisis negotiators engaged in conversation with Dude in an effort to bring the incident to a peaceful resolution.  After an extended unsuccessful negotiation, Dude began to reach for a firearm and the Linn Benton Regional SWAT Team used less than lethal munitions to subdue him.  He was taken into custody at 1:27 pm without injury to the public, law enforcement personnel.  Dude was treated for minor injuries at the scene by the Albany Fire Department.

The streets, businesses and public buildings were reopened for normal traffic at approximately 1:50 pm.

The Albany Police Department would like to thank the Linn Benton Regional SWAT Team, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon State Police, and the Albany Fire Department for their immediate response and assistance. We would also like to acknowledge our incredible community that acted with composure during a very serious situation.

Multi-Agency City Wide Sex Offender Sweep Conducted - 04/15/26

On Thursday, April 9, 2026 the Albany Police Department conducted a multi-agency law enforcement operation in Albany. We identified significant compliance issues among registered sex offenders during a coordinated sweep targeting 182 individuals. The effort, conducted by local, state, and federal partners, found that 105 offenders were in compliance, while 40 were non-compliant and 37 could not be located. When combined with additional administrative checks, a total of 285 compliance reviews revealed 149 compliant offenders, 99 non-compliant, and 37 with unknown status. Investigators also determined that many individuals were no longer in the area, including those who were deceased, incarcerated, or living out of state.

The operation resulted in 21 enforcement actions, including arrests, citations, warnings, and warrants served. Officials noted particular concern with inaccurate address reporting, especially among individuals listing a local shelter as their residence. The sweep focused on higher-risk offenders, including repeat offenders, those with prior violations, and individuals not previously checked in earlier operations, with the goal of improving registry accuracy and enhancing public safety.

Every effort is made to confirm sex offenders are in compliance with the law and ensure offenders are complying with the condition of their registration requirements. We would like to thank our partners, the United States Marshals Service, Oregon State Police Albany and Springfield Offices, the Sex Offender Registration Section and the Linn County Parole & Probation Office for their assistance and collaboration in making our community a safer place.
