At 19 minutes after midnight on Saturday morning Tangent Fire District was dispatched to reports of a structure fire at 31410 Hwy 34. When the first units arrived they found a two story house with a well involved fire through the roof of the attached single story garage, with extension into the house. All occupants were able to escape the home prior to the arrival of fire units. According to the homeowner occupants were alerted to the fire and awakened by a smoke alarm activation. The fire was under control in 60 minutes and declared out at 4:30 AM. One unit remained on scene for fire watch until 8:30. The fire was contained to the garage and a bedroom and bathroom in the upstairs of the home. There was also significant damage to the roof. Tangent Fire District was assisted at the scene by firefighters from Albany and Corvallis Fire Departments, and Halsey-Shedd Fire District had a unit at the scene and another unit providing coverage in Tangent. Investigation determined the fire started underneath the wood stove in the garage. The occupants declined relocation services, and were assisted by the Albany and Tangent Firefighter's Community Assistance Funds. There were no injuries, and damage is estimated at $200,000 for the structure, and $50,000 for the contents.
