Monday, February 26, 2018 Executive & Regular Board Business Meeting Agenda - 02/21/18

The Parkrose Board of Education of School District No. 3, Multnomah County, Oregon, will convene in an Executive & Regular Board Business Meeting on Monday, February 26, 2018 in the Boardroom at the Parkrose District Office located at 10636 NE Prescott St., Portland, Oregon at the hour of 6:30 pm. The Board will receive reports from the High School Associated Student Body, Superintendent's Office, School Improvement, Technology, Human Resources and the Business Office. They will hear a presentation on Middle College and the Parkrose High School Homeless Project. They will recognize Classified Employees for their outstanding service to Parkrose students. The Board will also take action on consent agenda items, MESD Service Menu and open enrollment & inter-district transfer counts. The Board will report/discuss items of Board Business including: appreciative inquiry, committee reports, legislative update, color caucus, MESD budget committee & equity work and debrief their previous working session training. Twice during each Regular Board Business meeting time is set aside to hear Citizen Comments, see policy attached to agenda for further details. Parkrose School District and Discovery Education Partner to Host Exclusive Professional Development Event for Local Educators and Administrators Focused on STEM (Photo) - 02/14/18

-Portland Area STEM Leadership Symposium to Explore Best Practices for Creating a Culture of STEM Teaching and Learning-

WHAT:
On Tuesday, February 27, Parkrose School District and Discovery Education will partner to deliver an inspiring, professional development event for local educators. During the Portland Area STEM Symposium, participating educators from across the region will discuss how their school systems are engaging key stakeholders to create effective STEM education programs that prepare students for success beyond the classroom.

During this interactive professional learning opportunity, participants will share best practices for creating immersive STEM experiences for all learners. In addition, participants will share with their peers leadership strategies that support the visioning, planning and development of dynamic digital learning environments that support STEM education and other academic disciplines.

This event will begin with an indepth presentation on the rising importance of STEM education presented by Dr. Robert Corbin, Discovery Education's internationally recognized Director of Global STEM Initiatives. Following Dr. Corbin's remarks, Parkrose School District Superintendent Dr. Karen Gray will share some highlights of the district's efforts to prepare all students for success beyond the classroom through STEM.

Dr. Corbin and other participants will experience and model exceptional STEM education in a fun and engaging "STEMmersion" activity, followed by a student panel of Oregon's very own including Rohan Wagh, 2016 3M Young Scientist Challenge Finalist, Shahir Rahman, 2017 Siemens Competition Finalist, and one of Parkrose School district's students. This panel will address attendees and offer a message of inspiration on the importance of STEM education.

Discovery Education is the leading provider of digital content for the classroom and a division of Discovery Communications, whose networks include Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and Science Channel.

Monday, February 12, 2018 Executive & Working Session Meeting Agenda - 02/07/18

The Parkrose Board of Education of School District No. 3, Multnomah County, Oregon, will convene in an Executive & Working Session Meeting on Monday, February 12, 2018 in the Boardroom at the Parkrose District Office located at 10636 NE Prescott St., Portland, Oregon at the hour of 5:30pm. The Board will receive a two hour Oregon School Boards Association Training on Roles/Responsibilities & Parliamentary Procedure. They will then have discussion time and at 8:15pm they will interview three Budget Committee Applicants for the two vacancies they will vote to fill later in the evening.
