Fire in Sisters Started by Escaped Cooking Fire - 07/01/21

Released by: Sergeant Jayson Janes

Date: July 1, 2021

Location: USFS land 100 spur rd. west of the City of Sisters

Cited: Bryan Baumann, 42 year old male, USFS land Sisters

Charges: Reckless Burning

On July 1, 2021 at approximately 10:47 AM the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a fire on USFS land west of the City of Sisters.

Upon arrival the fire was approximately 25 yards in diameter. The fire department was able to get a line around the fire and keep it from spreading.

It was determined that Bryan Baumann was camping in the area and had started a cooking fire. The fire escaped and quickly started spreading. Baumann attempted to put the fire out, but was unable to do so. Baumann ran to a nearby business to get help.

Baumann was transported by ground ambulance to St. Charles in Redmond with non-life threatening injuries. Baumann was issued a citation to appear for Reckless Burning.

No evacuations were necessary due to the location and size of the fire.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Black Butte Police Department.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that camp fires are currently not allowed in dispersed campsites. They are only allowed in designated campgrounds and in a fire ring.
