Narrative:
On August 21, 2020 at approximately 7:57 pm, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a missing person near Mallard Marsh Campground on the shores of Hosmer Lake. The missing female, Linda Standish had been missing for over three hours and had medical conditions that caused additional concern. The first deputy arrived around 8:31 pm.
Initial reports were that Standish was at her campsite in Mallard Marsh Campground and then left on foot without telling anybody around 4 pm. Family discovered her missing a short time later and began a search. After an unsuccessful search, family notified the camp host who began to search surrounding roads. At 7:57 pm, the camp host and family decided with darkness approaching it was time to call 911.
17 SAR volunteers, 2 SAR tracking K9’s and a Special Services Deputy responded to the scene along with one US Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer. As ground searches and K9’s were beginning their search, USFS Law Enforcement was mobile in a vehicle checking surrounding roads. At the time of the search it was 53 degrees and lightly raining.
At approximately 11:34 pm, USFS Law Enforcement located Standish in the middle of US Highway 372 (Cascade Lakes Highway) at approximately milepost 36. This location was approximately 3 miles straight line from where Standish was last seen.
Upon finding Standish she was confused but in otherwise good condition. Standish was cared for and evaluated by SAR medical personnel and then returned to her campsite with no further care needed.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the USFS for their valuable assistance in the mission.
